Congratulations to Nicholas Klemsz, University High School soccer goalie and The U Post’s first-ever athlete of the week!
Nicholas Klemsz has been the starting goalie for the University High School soccer team since his sophomore year. As seniors, Klemsz and midfielder Patrick Sanders were elected to be captains.
In his last year playing for the team, Nicholas stopped a remarkable 100% of all penalty kicks taken against him. Nicholas’s athleticism, lovable nature, and leadership skills helped the team put up an admirable fight against the #1-ranked Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles in sectional play to close out their season. University lost 2-1 to a last minute goal. Despite losing several key players in last year’s graduating class, this year’s team surpassed all expectations. The season ended with an impressive 7-5-2, largely thanks to Klemsz’s skills.
Klemsz was kind enough to answer a few questions about his experiences as a soccer player. Here are the results:
How long have you been playing soccer?
I started playing soccer in sixth grade at Sycamore Middle School.
What got you started playing?
I had to play a fall sport to get in shape for basketball, so I chose soccer to be able to hang out with my friends and prepare myself at the same time.
What has been your best memory from University High School soccer?
My favorite memory has just been being able to hang out with all of my friends and mesh as a unit with every single one of them.
Who is your favorite professional athlete?

What other sports/activities are you associated with at University?
I am the starting right fielder for the University High School baseball team and am also in the National Honor Society.
What are your future plans, if any?
I plan on going to a well-renowned college and hopefully get into a good medical school.
