The Girls Basketball Team started off their season on Tuesday, November 12, against the Park Tudor Panthers. The Blazers came out hot and jumped out to a 10-8 lead after the first quarter. The Panthers battled back and led by 1 at halftime. University put together an impressive third quarter to regain the lead 24-21 heading into the fourth. The Blazers played very tough defense and had a late lead thanks to an impressive jump shot by Elizabeth Orians and excellent free throw shooting by both Cyan and Honor Cosby. Due to a late surge, Park Tudor pulled ahead and claimed the victory 33-28.
Coach Summitt Mann had several comments about the Blazers’ game:
“I could not have asked them to play any harder tonight. They played with a ton of energy and enthusiasm. Ellie Klemsz, our senior leader, carried us in the first half. Cyan Cosby helped jump start the game into the second half and brought us back to life. Our defensive pressure was amazing throughout the whole game and the score doesn’t describe the competitive battle that happened tonight. We’re learning and growing.”
Ellie Klemsz led the team in scoring with 8 points followed closely by Cyan Cosby with 7 and Elizabeth Orians with 6. The Blazers showed a lot of good qualities in their opener. Everyone should be very excited for what the season has in store.
