The Lady Blazers took on Clinton Central on Friday, November 16. The Blazers started off slowly, having a lot of difficulty on the offensive end against Clinton Central’s “trap” defense. This caused the Blazers to go down 29-11 at half time. However, after a chance to regroup and recuperate, the Blazers came out with a lot of energy. Cyan Cosby carried a lot of the offensive weight and the Blazers buckled down on defense thanks to energetic play by Lizzie Berry. Despite picking up the play on both ends of the court the Blazers came up short losing 45-28.
Although the game resulted in a loss, there are a lot of positives that can be taken away. Cyan Cosby had a breakout game scoring 9 points, including a three-pointer. Ellie Klemsz and Elizabeth Orians secured the paint recording 2 and 3 blocks respectively, as well as 7 and 6 rebounds. Lizzie Berry did a good job distributing the ball, resulting in 4 assists. Another big thing to take away is that the Blazers outscored Clinton Central in the second half 17-16.
Coach Summitt Mann had this to say after the game:
“We had a hard time getting started tonight. The re-focused in the second half and didn’t give up. Cyan provided some much needed offense in the 3rd quarter. We also had defensive pressure from Lizzie, Honor, and Lexie. The season is a journey and the girls know that we need to learn and improve with each game. Tonight, we learned that you have to be ready to play at tip-off.
