Freshman Featurette: Shelby Wood

Freshman Featurette: Shelby Wood

This article was written by senior Monica Chavan.

Freshman Featurette is new to The U Post this year. Every two weeks, an upperclassman will write a short blurb about a freshman or transfer student that he/she would like to introduce to the school community. Freshman Featurette will hopefully become a way for the UHS community to get better acquainted with its own members and eliminate those “Who’s that?” thoughts we all have when seeing new faces in the hallway.

Shelby “Schlebee” Wood has been a wonderful addition to the UHS girls soccer team. From her awesomely fun-to-say nickname to her highly positive attitude, Shelby is a joy to be around both on and off the field. Shelby is the younger sister to two UHS alumni, Morgan (’13) and J.T. Wood (’14), but she does not let her older siblings define her. When asked whether or not she wants to follow in her siblings’ footsteps in musical theater, Shelby gave a resounding no. She describes her interests as “sports,” specifically “SOCCER.” Shelby is also looking forward to playing her flute in the UHS Pep Band this basketball season as she helps cheer the Trailblazers to victory.

This video is of Shelby Wood’s first goal for the UHS girls soccer team. The goal came off a beautiful corner kick which sailed into the net untouched by anyone on the field. Shelby is an exciting presence to watch on the field; come cheer her and the rest of the team on at their next home game on Wednesday, September 17th at 5:00pm against Park Tudor.
