Fashion 411: Holiday Edition

Fashion 411: Holiday Edition

By Lori Bowes

As much as we’d all like to deny the countless number of parties and activities bound to happen during the holiday break and just snuggle up on our couch with Netflix, they are nonetheless unavoidable, and chances are you will go to at least one or two holiday parties during your time off. Here are a couple of looks for combatting the cold, but still remaining fashionable and festive during the holiday season.

1. Formal Holiday Party

For any formal holiday party, you want to look presentable and nice, but also remain toasty and warm during the wintertime. With a long-sleeved black dress paired with tights, this look is still dressed up but still provides some warmth. Pair it with either a pair of heels, or for the people who don’t want to kill their feet all night, a pair of flats, in a deep maroon color. Dress it up with a statement necklace and bracelet and you’re all set for whatever party you may find yourself at.

2. Family Dinner

For family dinner, it’s best to go more casual, especially when you’ll likely be stuffing your face with delicious food. Comfortable black jeans and a loose sweater leave room for unbuttoning the top button after you’ve had one too many slices of pie. Add a few key pieces of jewelry, some fuzzy socks, and a warm blanket, and you’re all set for a snuggly night in with the family.

3. Catching up with friends

Whether it’s cousins you haven’t seen in months or friends who live in another city, the holiday season is prime time for catching up. This look pairs a black suede skirt with a wintery, cropped cream sweater. Combat boots and knee high socks dress it up a bit, and a long, warm parka and scarf make it doable for the outdoors (or at least for the walk from the car to the coffee shop).

4. New Year’s Eve

When it comes to ringing in the New Year, we should always welcome festivity with open arms. Sequins are a must, but not so much that you look like a walking Christmas tree. These shorts are festive and sparkly, and remain the focal point of the outfit. Paired with dark details like black tights and booties, a navy blue cropped top, and a black leather jacket, it still looks dressy, but is suitable for festivities well into the night.

5. Ugly Christmas Sweater

We all wish we could be as cool as Drake this holiday season, so to commemorate his infamous Hotline Bling video, here is a lovely, festive sweater you can wear to any holiday party your heart desires. Although in this case it shouldn’t necessarily be called an “ugly” Christmas sweater, per se. It might actually be the best holiday sweater look of all time.
