Fashion 411: Winter Weather

By Lori Bowes

So chances are, you’ve noticed that it’s cold as heck outside in Indiana, and it’s only going to get worse. You know what that means: hats and scarves and puffy coats and looking like a swaddled baby. Fear not though; this doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your personal style, even if it is negative twenty degrees outside. Below are three looks to stay stylish, but also oh-so-warm, throughout the coldest of months in winter.

  1. The Parka

Pair it with a pair of black jeans, maybe even add tights underneath if it’s really chilly, and a pair of boots and socks to seal in the warmth. Throw on some fuzzy earmuffs and some gloves, and you’re ready to face the world!

  1. The PeacoatScreen Shot 2016-02-03 at 6.12.41 PM

For this look, the peacoat is a classic style, but adding a subtle print like plaid really elevates the whole outfit. Paired with dark jeans and a black turtleneck, the outfit stays casual, but still put together. Lastly, with tall, over-the-knee boots for extra warmth on the legs, and matching gloves and a hat, you’re covered for any cold climate.

  1. The PufferScreen Shot 2016-02-03 at 6.12.27 PM

This last look is for when it gets so cold, it feels like moving any part of your body is impossible. This puffer, while keeping you comfortable and warm, has a cinched waist, so you don’t look  like a human marshmallow walking through the snow. With a burgundy sweater and jeans (let’s face it, who’s wearing anything but jeans at this temperature), you’re well equipped with layers. The booties dress it up a bit, but the low heel makes sure you don’t face plant in the parking lot. With a fuzzy scarf and your favorite pair of gloves, nothing can stand in your way.
