10 Things to Do While Quarantined

10 Things to Do While Quarantined

By Avani Papadopoulos

  1. Go on a walk/run every day. It’s important to keep exercising during this time, especially because we don’t know for how long we’ll be quarantined. If you can’t play sports because you don’t have the equipment or are missing playing the sport as a team, then running is a good way to get some aerobic exercise and keep your stamina up. The best part is that you don’t need any equipment and that you can do it on your own!
  2. Draw pictures with chalk on the sidewalk. Although it may seem a little silly and remind you of something you used to do as a child, drawing on the sidewalk is a nice way to spend time outside. You don’t even need to be good at drawing. This is just a way to incorporate some sunshine (hopefully, if the weather holds up) and creativity into your day.
  3. Do something nice for your family: Cook dinner (or learn how to), do chores, do something with your siblings if you have any, etc. Everybody has a family, and being quarantined gives us a chance to spend some quality time with them and even do something nice for them.
  4. Binge watch shows on Netflix (well, maybe not binge them, but watching a 45 minute show could be a good break from life). You could also have a movie night with your family on the weekends.
  5. Catch up on homework and create a schedule to get work done. This one is really important. You should take the time to create a schedule because usually when we only have a mental list of things we need to do, they don’t get done. Writing a list of things that need to get done creates a mentality and determination to be productive, and now is the time to make that list!
  6. Sleep! Take this time to catch up on sleep instead of sleeping in until the afternoon. If you turn in earlier the night before, the chances are, you’ll wake up earlier the next morning and be more productive than if you had slept in late.
  7. Listen to music or play your instrument if you have one. Music is a good way to relax. It can be calming to listen to, and it’s even better when you can practice and create it on your own.
  8. Play a game: virtual, physical, or even a board game. Tag, hide and seek, ninja, and war were all common games that we used to play in our childhood. Why not bring them back during this time and play them with your family?
  9. Make a journal and write in it every day. You can write about your day and how boring it is to be quarantined, and what you wish you were able to do, but also about how fun it is to be doing things that you don’t usually do.
  10. Learn something new! This can span from learning how to knit to learning how to drive. Whatever you choose, it’s a good way to keep yourself busy and keep your mind healthy and growing.
